You're getting a bit of history here. The unicorn you know — white horse, spiralled horn, the works — is actually a modern invention. Medieval folk had something altogether different in mind: smaller, more of a chimera really, with a deer's head, horse's body, lion's tail, goat's beard and split hooves. Back then it meant purity and faithfulness, and nobody reckoned you could tame the thing. Worth knowing where your mythology comes from, really.
