Little Garden Designer by Tender Leaf Toys gives you 64 solid wood pieces to arrange however you fancy. You get trees, bushes, flower pots with removable plants, flower beds, vegetable patches, sunflowers, grass tiles, patio and path pieces, paving slabs, rabbits, a two-part shed, hedge slabs and a pond — basically everything you need to design a garden that looks nothing like your actual one.

All of it lives in a proper plywood box with a sliding lid, so it won't end up scattered across the kitchen table for three weeks. The whole point is open-ended play, which means your child gets to decide what the garden looks like rather than following instructions. That tends to keep them occupied longer than you'd expect.
