So here's the thing: you'll hear people call budgies parakeets, and technically they're not wrong—budgies are parakeets. But it's the other way round that matters. "Parakeet" is actually the umbrella term for a whole bunch of small parrots, and budgies are just one type. All budgies are parakeets, but not every parakeet is a budgie. Bit like how all squares are rectangles, if you're into that sort of thing.
